No matter the size of the company or claim, Joe’s clients share a common need for practical and approachable advice to help them navigate and resolve complex litigation matters. With nearly 30 years experience, his clientele ranges from individuals to major institutions. Joe’s practice involves him representing insurers, financial institutions, and corporations. His range of matters include professional negligence, fiduciary duties, contract and commercial disputes, fraud, construction, fatalities, and catastrophic injuries. In addition to his institutional work, Joe represents many individuals with their personal claims.

Joe’s clients take comfort in his calm, frank, and trustworthy counsel. An accomplished litigator, Joe has appeared as counsel at all levels of court in Alberta and excels at resolving high-stakes disputes through the effective and objective assessment of evidence, the applicable law and the arguments likely to be faced by his clients. With his compelling and unequivocal written and oral arguments, Joe ensures his clients’ cases are clearly articulated to opposing parties, and to the Court. However, whenever possible, he works to assist his clients in avoiding long, expensive and drawn out litigation procedures to find more efficient and effective means of resolving a dispute. Joe is a firm believer and practitioner of Alternative Dispute Resolutions including participation in arbitrations, mediations, and Judicial Dispute Resolutions.

Joe’s entire legal career has been with Duncan Craig LLP. As a Student-At-Law, Associate and Partner, he has forged strong relationships with his clients, and works closely with them to ensure they are informed and fully prepared during each stage of the litigation process. By maintaining open, candid, and straightforward communications, Joe makes room for a personable and pragmatic relationship with his clients, reducing stress and maximizing a focus on reputation and results; in turn, he values the long-standing trust and faith they place in him.

The firm’s cordial culture brought Joe to Duncan Craig LLP, and he has been a steward of that legacy for many years, including ensuring its growth in today’s unique firm culture of caring deeply; with humanity being the center of its core beliefs. Today he serves as the Co-Chair of the Associate Development committee, Co-Chair of the firm’s Insurance and Risk Management Group and Co-Chair of the Strategic Initiatives regarding Client Relationships. His interest in his community is equally extensive. In addition to taking part in various charity events and fundraisers throughout the year, Joe also sits on the Board of Directors of Catholic Social Services and is a past Co-Chair of their Sign of Hope campaign. Personally, Joe has a great appreciation for the Alberta outdoors and enjoys sharing his time with his wife, twin children, large extended family, and friends.
