Ryan Shearer is an associate in the Business Solutions, Financial Services, and Real Estate practice groups. His practice involves all corporate and commercial matters, including commercial transactions, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, leasing, and financing. Ryan also handles a variety of real estate matters, including residential and commercial transactions, expropriations, and surface rights issues.
In Ryan's Own Words:
"I help people and their businesses outside of the courtroom. While the phrase 'corporate lawyer' might evoke a dull and distant feeling, issues involving a person’s property, business, and livelihood are usually deeply personal. I focus on building personal connections with my clients as I value the personal problems those clients bring to me. Taking this approach helps me to better understand a client’s interests while also providing a comfortable environment to tackle challenging legal issues in a comprehensive fashion."
Ryan obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (with distinction) in 2019, majoring in Finance, and his Juris Doctor (with distinction) in 2022, earning both degrees at the University of Alberta. He interned at the Workers’ Compensation Board, participated in the Courts Clerkship course at the Alberta Court of Appeal, and articled with Duncan Craig LLP. Ryan was called to the Alberta Bar in 2023.
During Ryan’s time in law school, he received the Louise McKinney, George H. Steer, and Faculty of Law Undergraduate Scholarships for his academic achievements and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (Canada) Prize in Estate Planning. Ryan also volunteered with Student Legal Services, Pro Bono Students Canada, and the Edmonton Community Legal Centre.
Ryan was born outside of Anchorage, Alaska, and grew up on a hobby farm near Devon, Alberta. In his free time, Ryan enjoys golfing, bouldering, snowboarding, water-skiing, and motorcycling.
