Daniel Spanu
Daniel Spanu is an associate within our Estate Solutions practice group at Duncan Craig LLP. He represents individuals and families in estate litigation matters, advising on disputes involving wills, estates, and related matters.
Daniel provides steady, practical guidance to clients navigating complex and emotionally charged situations. He works with individuals and families to resolve disputes efficiently while protecting their legal rights and long-term interests. Whether through negotiation, mediation, or litigation, Daniel focuses on clear strategy and measured outcomes.
Daniel approaches his work with empathy and perspective shaped by personal experience. He understands that estate disputes often involve grief, strained relationships, and deeply personal histories. He listens carefully, explains options in straightforward terms, and helps clients move forward with clarity and confidence.
In Daniel’s Own Words:
“Shortly after I was called to the Alberta Bar, I witnessed the rapid cognitive decline of my father. Experiencing that loss while he was still physically present gave me a clear understanding of the strain and uncertainty families face during incapacity. That experience shapes how I practice. I focus on reducing the legal burden during difficult times by helping families put the right supports in place and ensuring a loved one’s wishes are respected, both during incapacity and after death. It is meaningful to know my work has helped ease even part of that responsibility for a family, and I bring that same level of care, diligence, and focus to every client matter.”
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Daniel had a successful and varied career in the public service that spanned from preparing briefing materials and recommendations for federal cabinet ministers in Ottawa to managing zoning by-law enforcement officers municipally in Edmonton.
Outside of the office, Daniel enjoys playing guitar and singing at home (even if his children object), riding his mountain bike on single-track trails whenever he can (even if his aging body objects), and talking to anyone who will listen about the importance of the Beatles. He is also known for his pizza-making skills - which no one objects to.
