Like a game of chess, the pieces in commercial litigation are constantly moving; to effectively defend one position and advance another, it’s important to have a litigator capable of anticipating every move. That litigator is Ted Feehan.

For over thirty years, Ted has helped clients settle difficult conflicts between shareholders, business partners, joint-ventures, suppliers, contractors, employers, employees, and customers. Ted navigates each case with attention and skill; he critically assesses written documents, case law, and legislation to discern true and valuable facts that aid in a timely settlement.

Armed with numerous legal remedies, Ted meets his clients’ disputes with flexibility, honesty, and critical thinking. Known for his communicative nature and resolution-focused approach, Ted invests in each case by maintaining a fair and informative dialogue, while his analytical and cost-conscious manner help disputes progress swiftly and efficiently.

When a suitable settlement cannot be reached, clients can rely on Ted’s extensive trial experience. He has represented clients before dozens of different administrative and professional tribunals, and in the Provincial Court, the Court of Queen's Bench, the Court of Appeal of Alberta, the Federal Court of Appeal and Trial Division, the Nunavut Court of Justice, and the Supreme Court of Yukon. He also has valuable experience with arbitration, mediation, and alternative dispute resolutions.

Ted wanted to be a lawyer since he can ever remember as a young boy, likely due to the fact the entire Feehan family are all lawyers – uncles, cousins, brothers, and his father who became a Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta in 1973. In Ted’s words, listening is what he learned most from his father. This pathway ensured Ted is committed to holding a respectful and collegial approach when dealing with opposing counsel, and his relationships with clients and other lawyers contributing to his abilities in resolving disputes quickly and cost effectively. Simply, he is known as a down to earth gentleman who comes across as exactly as what he says – caring, ethical, competent, and professional.

Elected by his peers as a Bencher with the Law Society of Alberta, Ted is widely respected within the Alberta legal community. This board director position is non-paid, 400 hours per year, and operates with directing the administration of the Law Society of Alberta and disciplinary hearings for lawyers. He is also the Law Society representative on the Advisory Council for the Legal Education Society of Alberta and has lectured at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Extension; Legal Education Society of Alberta; Bar Admission Course; Canadian Bar Association Mid-Winter Meetings; Canadian Bar Association Subsections; Canadian Defence Lawyers and to private industry.

In 2022, Ted was honoured to receive an appointment as King's Counsel. The appointment recognizes outstanding contributions to the legal profession and the community. He was selected as one of the Best Lawyers in Canada for Commercial litigation in 2019, 2023, 2024, and in 2025 for Administrative and Public Law, Bet-the-Company Litigation, Construction Law and Corporate and Commercial Litigation.

Ted is married with two children. His deep connection to his work pushes him to enforce a healthy work life balance and giving back to his community. When he’s not advising clients, Ted is a board member of the Edmonton People in Need Housing Society, board member of the Frank J. Flaman Charity, and is a member of the St. Thomas More Lawyers Guild and enjoys downtime at his lakeside cottage relaxing on his pontoon boat lost in a good book.
